Nothing much on Tuesday, 30 March 2010

Published by Ellen under My life in the USA

A very slow Tuesday. Dan had an appointment at 10.00 AM with a customer for Ruysdael Design, our web design company. Therefore we could sleep in a little bit. After he left, I answered some emails and one of them was from a reader who was so attentive to tell me that this website, when it is displayed on a smaller screen, is too full. I am in the lucky circumstance that I have a big screen, so it did not look that full here. I narrowed the settings of the page display, and indeed, he was totally right. I removed some widgets from the sidebars, and instead of two right side bars, it is one again. Thanks again for pointing this out to me, friend! :-)

The Idol contest of the hospital Saturday evening was a blast! What great performances we’ve seen! I was so impressed with the quality of the performances. The big auditorium of the local high school was the place where it all happened. It was really a night out. All the people were dressed very well which made it even better. The jury was a copy of the real American Idol jury. One of the jury members was dressed and acting like Simon Cowell. He did a marvelous job. One MD did a comedian act. He was really funny. But there were nuns in the audience, and the jokes were sometimes tinted. It did not look like they were offended though.

Busy week, windy Saturday, 27 March 2010

As I wrote before, times flies! My goodness, it is already Saturday here! (In Europe too, but then later :-) )

Last Wednesday, I got a call from the school district and my fingerprints were back from the police department. I was approved! Phew :-D . She asked me to pick up more forms to sign and also to sign the contract! So I biked to their office and took all the papers with me. There were some papers, like the W4 tax form, and I wanted some help from Dan to fill that in. I told her I would bring it in this Friday.

In memory of my parents, 25 March 2010

This afternoon, I was going through all my documents stored on my PC. I deleted a bunch of them, and then I found a pdf file of my parents’ wedding picture. They were married 58 years ago this month. My sister Marja sent that original picture some some time ago. Seeing this picture now is really meaningful because my dad died 30 years ago this month, and my mom died this coming October, 27 years ago.

Times flies. It is amazing. Yesterday, 2 1/2 years ago, it was our wedding day. In some ways it feels like yesterday, and in other ways it feels so much longer we’re married.  And, already I have lived in this country for more than 1 1/2 years. So much has happened to me these last [...]
