Not so much to tell. I worked hard this week in and around the house, went to the gym with Dan and had a great haircut by my regular hairdresser Hilda. The hairdressers/salons here work different than in The Netherlands. Here hairdressers have their own customers. They get their income from the customers instead from a salary. The previous time I called for an appointment, I got the other girl, Marisol on the phone. She asked who I wanted to cut my hair. I said, I do not mind, but I usual get a cut from Hilda. Ah, she said, that is okay, either way. I did not want to be impolite and said, I do not mind either. So she booked me for herself. I came in the store and my regular hairdresser welcomed me and let me sit down. I did feel a lot of tension going on between the two hairdressers. I did not know why, but just found out yesterday when I called for an appointment and got Hilda and the phone. When I arrived at the shop, she whispered in my ear: Good you called me, now she cannot try to steel you again from me! She later explained to me how it works over here.
Today, I had to work at the hospital here in town. It is twice as busy during a weekday shift. It was fun though. Tomorrow, I’ll have to work again there and for now, I have the weekend off but that can change easily.
This coming weekend, there is a lot going on in our part of the state. There is a Fiesta, The Old Spanish Days Fiesta, in Santa Barbara. A week of festivals with lots of historic events, traditional dancing, a Stock Horse Show & Rodeo and of course lots of food, beer and Margaritas!!
But, in Ventura, which is much closer, there will be a big parade on Main Street that goes toward The County Fair (kermis). I’ve heard from colleagues that the parade is pretty neat to see as well. We have visited the county fair in Ventura when I was here on vacation. The fair was immensely large with so many things to do. The sad thing was I was so afraid to do the more exciting things. I used to be a kind of daredevil, but lately I am such a cry baby. I hate that! On that county fair, there was a ship that went up and down pretty high. I used to love this kind of ride, but that day, I thought I was going to die! So extremely scared I was. I tried another ride that day, the giant’s stride (zweefmolen). Man, these things go high up in the sky nowadays! Brrrrrrrrrr… So, we have some difficult choices to make :-)
Just when I am writing this post, we heard a big bang outside! A collision? We went outside and on the corner of Gonzales Road and Lantana Avenue, again right in front of our house. A two cars accident. Within 2 minutes the police was there, and a few minutes later the fire trucks and the ambulance arrived. We saw one man carried into the ambulance, sitting on the stretcher, holding his arm, we believe the injuries were luckily not severe. Here a little video, Dan took.
Dan is working for Ruysdael Design. We’ll probably watch some TV later this evening.
