A weekend well spent, 23 January 2011

Published by Ellen under My life in the USA

Because of the dry and windy weather here, my headache is flourishing very well  The whole week I had to take painkillers and Claritin but it did not help that much. Only when I went to bed, was I able to take the prescription painkillers, and they really knocked me out! Friday I came home from work, and unfortunately [...]

Sunny weather, Sisterhood, 19 January 2011

Published by Ellen under My life in the USA

Our birthday card for her husband arrived in time! Phew! She has had her first Chemo treatment 9 days ago, and it is heavy. She is strong and not a person who wines at all about her situation. She had sent me a birthday card, but it had not arrived this morning. She was pretty upset with that. This afternoon, after I came home from work, I found out why. This has been the kindest birthday card I ever received. She wrote so sweet about our sisterhood and her appreciation for me being there for her, even that we live so far away from each other. That was so sweet of her. I can tell you, she is there for me ten times more!

New week with work, birthdays and party, 17 January2011

Published by Ellen under My life in the USA

After 3 weeks of Christmas vacation, I was more than ready to go back to work. And it was wonderful again. Within half an hour, the kids were already back into their “routine.” My little girl is having some problems with the schoolbus. We can’t figure out what triggers her, but she is trembling when she get off the bus, and according to her grandmother who puts her on the bus in the morning, she is scared to get on the bus. We have mentioned it to the schoolbus division of our city, and we’ll see what is going to happen. The busdriver is not the most open minded woman, but that should not imply that my student has to be scared. She should feel safe on the bus.

Training, working, driving, 09 January 2011

Published by Ellen under My life in the USA

Last week I had a two day NCPI Training in Camarillo. This training is required for my work at the school. Dan was able to drop me off in the morning, but I had to go back by public transportation. Never again! I’ve done it before but these two times were horrible. First, I had to make appointments with Dial a Ride. At first it looked okay. But then, when they did not show up at the agreed upon time, I panicked. Luckily, both times I made it just in time to get my bus from the train station in Camarillo to my town. There, I had to wait 20 minutes for my next bus. Not sure why this is here, but there were a lot of homeless and mentally disabled people waiting at the same bus stop. At one point, I felt a bit uncomfortable. It took me 2 1/2 hour to get home. I was exhausted! The training was very interesting and intense though.
