Again it has been a very long time since I wrote here. I do not know why, but I am not so inspired lately. When I started to blog, I did it to share my life here with my family in the Netherlands and keep them updated with my new life here in the States. After about a year, I decided to write in English, mainly because some of my American family in law were reading this post and surprisingly, also people from around the world who did the effort to read my posts through Google translate. It has been a joy to discover that I had readers with whom I am staying in contact and who became my blog buddies.
Most of my family and friends back in Holland are now so adjusted to the idea I live on the other side of the world, it is not that exciting anymore to read about my daily life, and with most of them I am in close contact (email, phone) anyway. I have to admit, I like to write. I always had that. At school I had great grades for essays. (My mom said I had lots of imagination.) I am not saying that I will stop writing this blog, but I have the feeling it becomes less interesting to write about my daily life for the outside world. I am still very, very excited that I live in this great country with the best husband ever. I feel a part of this country. When we were celebrating the 4th of July at the College campus with thousands of Americans, I felt secretly I was one of them. I sang the National Anthem loud and did the Pledge of Allegiance as well. So what is going on now, makes me immensely sad; that the two political parties here can make such a mess and refuse to do their job! Disgusting!! Sorry…… I had to say that…..
Anyway, things are going very well here. Last weekend we had 5 members of my family in law visiting here, and it was a blast. I got to know them a bit during our family reunion, and now we were able to intensify our new family bond. We went to Santa Barbara and visited the mission, the pier and we went shopping. Three Teenage girls and two moms shopping…poor dads :-)
So for now I say goodbye!

I sure hope you’ll still be around and come to our blog. Or are you quitting blogs altogether? Good luck whatever you do Ellen. It’s been fantastic to “meet” you.
Thanks Joy, I will keep following your blog, I’m still submitted
Oh good. Then we don’t have to “really” say bye.
Three years! It goes by fast doesn’t it? I adore your love of American life. It’s refreshing to see through your eyes. I hope you continue to blog, at least here or there sometimes. I should plan to visit Santa Barbara. Those sound like scenic spots.

Hi Ellen, glad to have been part of the “blogging phase” of your life, and I am excited to keep in touch and see what else life presents for you!!! Remember, you can always come back, or not, there’s no hurry to decide… Maybe even a biannual update??
I think a lot of us get tired of blogging (about ourselves or other topics) after some time. Maybe this was a first step, and you are searching for a new form of writing.
Take care, my California girl friend!
Thank you all. As I said, I might come back and write more about things that happens here with us, we’ll see. You too take care. XXX
Hi El,
I still love reading your blog and I’m not bored of reading about your daily life.
Just to let you know, you are the best coffee break!!!
Cara xx
Thanks Cara, I might come back and be full of inspiration again
dikke kus!
I have just found your blog while searching for bitterballen on Google Image search (for my Pinterest) & really love your blog – I had to leave a comment to say definitely keep up the posting! I’m American and lived in NL for 6 years. Now I live in Australia and keep up with all things Dutch and keep practicing the Dutch I worked so hard to learn, and I love reading now about the experiences of others who have moved abroad. I shared in a recent post on my blog about your blog too! Wishing you well! Groetjes uit Australië! Isabella
Thanks for writing on my blog, Isabella and nice to meet you through blogging!
The funny thing is, I just made kroketten too. They were so good! With white buns and mustard and French fries. I only missed the apple sauce, lol.
